Colangelo and Krzyzewski Dream Team of Their Own
LAS VEGAS — Mike Krzyzewski likes to tease Jerry Colangelo that he’s from the wrong side of Chicago. Colangelo returns the favor by questioning Krzyzewski’s allegiance to a certain North Side baseball team.
But make no mistake: Since Colangelo appointed Krzyzewski to coach Team USA, they have formed an alliance that has transcended light-hearted territorial spats and produced a 62-1 record in international play with back-to-back Olympic gold medals.
More specifically, Colangelo and the Duke coach have infused USA Basketball with a no-nonsense work ethic that both acknowledge is based in part on their upbringing in the City of Broad Shoulders.
